“Deeperworlds” the new release from Mystical Sun is an expansive cinematic travelogue through a constellation of sound worlds, each filled with unique sonic forms. They are bound together by the common themes of vastness, transcendence, exploration, initiation, feeling and returning to the source.
The songs on "Deeperworlds" grew and evolved into distinct styles and expressions over a period of about a decade. The result is a unique document of influences from life and electronic music evolution during that period.
Album: Deeperworlds (Cyberset Music)
Artist: Mystical Sun
Style/s: psy-chill, psy lounge, cinematic, environmental
A real grower that began as "good" and ended up "fantastic" after another 6 months of listening. A testament to the value of treading the road less traveled, ie. finding and creating your own live sounds and digital samples. The tracks range from driving mid-tempo grooves to pure environmental ambience, full of sparkling textures yet with a rounded, soft production sheen.

ANOTHER ABSOLUTELY TOPNOTCH RELEASE FROM FAIRLY MYSTERIOUS SYNTHESIST
You say the new Mystical Sun is coming out and i say, "i'm there." that's how it is. this is only the third release, and with 5-6 year intervals between discs (the first two aren't dated, so i'm estimating:) the first, "Primordial Atmospheres" in the mid 90s and the second "After Materia Cloudland," which must have been around 2001, this artist takes time to craft very remarkable technoambient recordings with strong shamanistic and magickal properties. reclusive and wise, Mystical Sun has released sonic jewel after sonic jewel, may it continue forever, so be it.
This album starts with some highly intelligent high energy pieces that are in the electrodub general domain but really only Phutreprimitive comes close. This really is in its own peculiar world that can't be easily described. oweing some to native american shamanism, some to the egyptian current, Mystical Sun sort of is like the Castanedan Don Juan of Electro. serious.
The later part of the album becomes very electronic and ambient, but this disc really does work the areas of Shamanic Power. 14 tracks move adept through regions of the Underworld that provide deep Insight to intrepid explorers with the courage to go deep within.
Three of the tracks were previously released on "After Materia Cloudland." This includes the classic, "Something Very Pure," now just "Pure," which is a classic in spiritual downtempo in my book.
From the Echoes Blog
While we’re here my favorite ambient album of the year: Mystical Sun Deeperworlds. Inventive programming, cut & paste surrealism, surging, almost anthemic grooves and deceptively haunting melodies.
Sonic Curiosity Review of Deeperworlds
This music possesses a lovely cinematic flair with its sweeping electronics and demure rhythms. Pleasant textures drift with stately manner, punctuated by more rigorous pulsations and churning effects. But the standard remains soothing and endearing with liquid flows and ambient grooves. Synthetic sounds approximate a sparkling surf as easily as they conjure the mood at the depths of a murky forest.
The percussion is gentle, often understated, enhancing the music's languid character with sinuous tempos of a distinctly chill out nature. Even when the beats adopt a more demonstrative presence, the mood rarely varies from that of an afternoon doze.
Harnessing a vital sense of relaxation, these compositions are designed to mesmerize with holistic results. The band has captured the instant between wakefulness and slumber and injected it with a tasteful dose of pep that does little to disturb the music's overall somnambulance.
Ambient Visions Review of Deeperworlds
"Deeperworlds never disappoints the listener with each track building on the last and leaving you with a complete picture by the time you hit track 14. This CD was meticulously crafted by Mystical Sun and as you listen to each track you begin to realize how much work went into the creation of this music. The listener might even find themselves drifting off into the new worlds that Richard created and if not on the first listen perhaps in subsequent listenings as you delve deeper into the fabric of the music. Highly recommended."
Ambient Music Guide Review of Deeperworlds
"Among the rhythmic tracks "Halo" is outstanding. Here he masterfully layers 3 or 4 melody lines at once with different synth sounds, adding loads of tiny details like jangling zither and choral vocals. "Cloudbursting" is another gem, a rousing tune led by an electric guitar arpeggio and a groove that sounds a bit like Big Beat gone psy."
Morpheus Music Review of Deeperworlds
"Chilled instrumental electronica with rich layering and serene atmospheres. The label describes Mystical Sun's sound as 'atmostronica' highlighting the lush, ambient quality of the music. Beats range from downtempo restfulness through minimal interludes to pacey dance beats - yet the overall impression is one of tranquillity and unhurried easiness. A female voice echoes in some tracks - spoken words bringing a human touch to a generally synthetic canvas - that said, Mystical Sun's sound is by no means sterile or overly sanitised, the melodic structures have a lot of feeling and emotional impact."

Properly Chilled Review of Deeperworlds
"From slow to fast and slow again the tempos change something like a tide, allowing you to catch your breath before losing it again. The pace never reaches a level of annoyance however, and that allows you to keep up with it.
It's a world that's warm, inviting, and unlike anything that every day life can give you, and "Deeperworlds" is a perfect name for it."
